Keep a Girl in School Plans

Keep a Girl in School (KaGiS) is a program that assists girls maintain feminine hygiene by monthly support/supply of sanitary pads to schools linked to Upendo Foundation. Currently the supply reaches over 2000 girls in 18 linked schools, both secondary and primary. During the Covid-19 peak in the middle of this year when schools were closed, the supply was done through Upendo and Kirongo groups which was much appreciated by girls/parents/guardians. As partial normalcy resumed, we continued distribution through schools and will continue fully beginning January 2021.

Given the global outcry on boy child neglect, there is need to take care of boy child needs. Upendo Foundation plans to initiate an all-inclusive program that will take care of both boys and girls including but not limited to health talks, socio/physiological support etc. In the period since the outbreak of Covid-19, the organization has held behaviour change and mentorship sessions with teenage boys and girls and this program is intended to continue in the year 2021 to help tackle some of the challenges both boys and girls go through.
